Thank you Decatur Democrat readers for recognizing me, Coni Mayer, as the 2018 Woman of the Year As I work for a board of directors who oversee the operations of the Adams County Community Foundation (ACCF) and so many volunteers associated with the ACCE, I know there are many women in our community to be recognized Coni is pictured here with her son, Matthew and his wife, Jen, who is holding the Mayer's youngest grandchild, Everly, and her daughter, Maggie. In the photo below, Coni gets a little help in the office from her grandson, Rhett, who helps keep grandma focused on the task at hand Her Husband When not working with the many individuals who make her work at the Adams County Community Foundation possible, Coni enjoys spending time with her family, and in particular doting on her grandchildren. Pictured, from left, are her son and daughter-in-law, Jen and Matthew Mayer, son-in-law, Dayne and daughter, Maggie Tyner. Coni is seated in front with her husband, Hank, who is holding their grandson, Rhett Tyner. I am originally from Pleasant Mills. My parents, Shirley Everett (Pleasant Mills postmaster) and the late Glen Everett, had five children: Shelley Ringger, Glen and Ed Everett (all of Adams County) and the late Chad Everett, who lived in Cincinnati.I am the middle child. When I was in high school, al I wanted to do was leave Adams County. After leaving Adams County, I earned my undergraduate degree from IU and master's degree from Seattle Universit While working in Louisville, Kentucky, I met and married my USMC husband, Hank Mayer. We moved around a lot: Louisville: Quantico, Virginia; Okinawa, Japan; Aberdeen, Maryland; Seattle, Washington; and Summit, Mississippi. After having our two children, Matthew (Dall Texas) and Maggie (Allen County),l I wanted to do was move back to Adams County. In 1996, our family moved to rural Decatur. I taught at Ivy Tech, IPFW and Indiana Institute of Technology before beginning my position with the ACCF in 1999 atursculpturetou Now, our children are grown with babies of their own. Matthew and Jen have a beautiful baby girl, Everly (8 months), and Maggie and Dayne have an adorable baby Rhett, (2 years). Earlier this year, Hank retired after 19 years at the Adams County Solid Waste Management District and fills his days with well-deserved relaxation in Summit. People ask me when I am going to join him. How could anyone think I would to leave a community so pleasurable, with people so authentic and a job so fulfiling and gratifying? I am pleased to be a part of so many committees, but the DST has become one of the most creative and motivating organizations as it has influenced the way our residents view art. The DST, having just recognized the seventh year for our outdoor gallery, has brought a renewed sense of pride to our community. I am very proud to be a part of this "art-inspired movement. Coni is shown here with Decatur Mayor Ken Meyer during the unveiling event of the 2015 Decatur Sculpture Tour. Again, thank you readers for showing appreciation for me as I sure have the greatest appreciation for you
