Jodi Mawhorr who was voted the 2019 Decatur Daily Democrat Readers Choice "Volunteer of the Year," would like to thank those who voted for her to receive this award. Mawhorr grew up in Lapel, Indiana, and is a graduate of Lapel High School. She attended Vincennes University and received an Associate of Science Degree for Criminal Justice. She is a graduate of the Indiana State Police Academy and worked as? an Indiana State Trooper in the Peru, Indiana, post before joining the Adams County Sheriff's Department in 2002. Mawhorr worked as a deputy and forensic child interviewer with the sheriff's department until 2015. She is currently employed as the administrative assistant with the Berne Police Department. She is a founding member of the Adams County Cancer Coalition for the past three years, the current secretary and a board member of the Adams Wells Crisis Center for 10 years and a committee member and previous grant committee member of the Adams County Community Foundation Angel Cancer fund Mawhorr and her husband, Adams County Sheriff Dan Mawhorr, reside in Berne with their two children, Will and Malina. The Mawhorrs are active in their children's activities and South Adams school.
